LTS LTN8816-P16 NVR not recognizing hikvision camera

so i got my hands on a lts ltn8816-p16 nvr which i believe it's the same as the hikvision 7716ni-sp nvr..

problem that i have is that it is not recognizing a hikvision 2cd2322wd-i camera via the hikvision protocol ...

plug and play did not work so i configured the camera ip address to the LTS internal ip address of 192.168.254.1 - in this case the camera ip address is 192.168.254.4... i tried to add it manually using the hikvision protocol/password but the nvr does not recognize the camera.. however, when i change the protocol to ONVIF, the nvr recognizes the camera...

camera , nvr port is 8000 and http port is 80.. password of the camera is 8 characters long..

i upgraded the lts nvr firmware to the latest in their website..(NVR3_V3.1.1_160816 8/16/2016) - there is no 2017 firmware available..

i sent a quick email to LTS support , in which they replied - it should work.. a subsequent email to the support person went unanswered.... so i guess i'm on my own..

so am i doing something wrong?
