Manufacturer recommended encode settings

Hey folks

Wanted to ask if there are encode settings recommended by the camera manufacturer?

Connected 6MP genuine Dahua cameras IPC-HDW4631EMP-0280B to a Dahua NVR and wasn't getting a clear image. I tried a 8MP HIKVISION camera but the NVR wouldn't recognise it (it works fine on a HIKVISION NVR) so I purchased IPC-HDW2831TM-AS-S2 and the result was the same on the Dahua NVR. Started to change the encode settings and I see some improvement but its still not clear. At times I can get an over decode ability message but this doesn't come up any more.

Would it be okay to run the main stream at full quality and not use the sub stream at all? I'd much rather remote view the cameras at full quality rather than the max 720 p or so I can get from the sub stream.

Also does the NVR record both streams or only one?

Cheers

Post a video of the not clear image

Generally speaking yes. You can run the main stream and choose not to record the substream on a Dahua NVR.

Depending on the model and how many cameras are recording, you should be able to run 8192 bitrate (even 10,240 on certain models) using h.264h without problem. I use that on 4MP and 8MP Dahua cameras just fine.

8, 16, 32 cameras all at once ? or just some ?

Are you asking me or the OP?

I run 12 cameras at home, 5 are 4MP, 1 8MP, the rest 2MP - all 6144 or 8192, 30FPS, h.264h
