Hi guys,

which is the most recommended model Asus router with onboard VPN ? just getting my system going and looking for the "easiest" VPN solution.

Thanks for any suggestions.
 
Yup, the RT-AC1900 (TM-AC1900) is a re-badged RT-AC68U. Runs VPN well for a very reasonable price. If you find a used TM-AC1900, look up how to hack the BIOS to turn it into a fully-capable RT-AC68U. They are exactly the same hardware, and the TM-AC1900 used goes for about $50 USD these days. Fifteen to thirty minutes of hacking saves you close to $100 USD. Now, if you want a brand-spanking-new top-of-the-line Asus router with hardware encryption, the more expensive RT-AC86U is a better choice. On sale, it's about $150 USD.

An Asus rep told me that any of their routers beginning with the "RT" suffex have a VPN. some of the "RT" routers get cheaper then the RT-AC68U. Would it best to stay with the RT-AC68U and up in terms of price point?
 
I wouldn't go any lower than the ASUS RT-AC66U_B1 "AC1750"

This is the one I use but have Asuswrt-Merlin firmware on it.
Never any VPN issues and very simple to setup.
