Anyone did this? Are there any benefits of using the base vs mounting the camera directly onto the wall?

Mounting the camera without the base makes the camera much smaller

Mounting the camera without the base makes the camera much smaller

I have - i don't know that I would say it makes it smaller. It does reduce the depth slightly and and there is no room for error as with the mount you have some play with the mounting screws to turn the base.
