multicast vs multiple streams for 2 process reading the same camera

What is the recommendation for defining the connection to a camera that supports multiple streams? BI and openalpr both will be reading from the same camera. Is it better to multicast and have both BI and openalpr access the camera via stream 0 and have streams 1 & 2 disabled or is it better to have BI and openalpr each use their own stream (BI=0 and openalpr=2)?

Both streams will be defined the same.
