My BI stops recording at random times.

I think the timeline view shows this well.
2022-08-02 12_24_34-Al's Blue Iris UI3.jpg

In this pic, I've scrolled back the TimeLine to where it has dropped out
2022-08-02 12_26_25-.jpg

And... this shows the TimeLine zoomed out and shows earlier from today.
2022-08-02 12_27_45-Al's Blue Iris UI3.jpg

Running 5.5.8.2 (6/22/2022) which is the "latest critical or highly-stable update"
If anyone is curious about how things are being stored:

Is anyone able to tell me where to start looking?

Thank you for your time,
Al

any similarities as to how the signal (feed) from these cameras get to BI server?

Do they share the same power source, maybe?

Poe switch power fluctuation maybe?
why is the Disk showing a slice of Pie in the red? Thats an Allocation shortage. Should look more like this.

My POE switch is holding solid.

The disk usage is really weird. I feel I have plenty of space. Just not sure that BI is doing what I am asking it as to storage.

The Blue Iris DB is on C which is an SSD. I have all the video stored to H which is a 10TB WD Purple Surveillance Hard Drive.

2022-08-03 10_16_04-79021486.jpg

I have the Stored folder on H as well but Nothing is making its way into it as the New folder is set to delete when it reaches 5TB
(Didn't do a screenshot of this)

The Alerts Folder I have set to 1GB. This is a very busy folder. Currently, there are 8,507 images in there and it takes up 711MB. The oldest file is from July 24. This makes me think I am storing way more than I need. Maybe just keep a day or two worth of files?

Anyway, all this is to address the issue of why does my Disk Usage show some red in the pie chart?

And just to verify so everyone knows your setup... All cameras are recording 24/ 7? Are some only recording on motion detection or IVS trip wires? I have a mixture of when BI records. Some are continuously some are only recording while motion

Do you not get any events in the BI log, whenever a cam has gone offline for me it’s always added a log entry.
I think this is the key!!
Until I read your post, it hadn't occurred to me to see why it wasn't keeping a log. This is a check box on the Status Screen when you have the Log tab selected. Now I have that checked so I am keeping a log.

Here is the curious thing I am finding:
This is a portion of my Timeline from this morning...
2022-08-03 10_52_10-.jpg

2022-08-03 10_54_12-79021486.jpg

I haven't dug into the log very much yet, but to me, it looks like a bunch of files are being deleted. These files are from today. Maybe the system is mistakenly deleting files because it thinks it has used up the storage and it needs to make more space. But, it is taking away new files when it should be taking old files instead.
Scratching my head...

Good point.
I have it set so that all cameras are recording 24/7

This thread should have a better title.
Maybe: BI is Deleting New Clips
Or: BI is storing more than the Limit size.

Possibly helpful information...
On the screen grab, the left panel shows that there is 6.76 TB stored in the H:\Blue Iris New folder
The panel on the right shows how it should be storing no more than 5000 GB (5 TB) of files.

What's the deal?
Is it because I have BI using such a high value for the drive letter? Is "H" somehow beyond what it can deal with? I don't know.

I believe 5000mb for "new" folder. Wonder what limit size for "stored" folder.

Please note that the "new" folder is set to delete. As I understand it, if you do that, nothing will be moved to the "stored" folder.

This is how the "stored" folder is set:

Your h drive should have a folder called Blue Iris. Inside that folder should be NEW and STORED
Your caption above is showing a H:\ Blue Iris New. without the back slash to indicate it's a subfolder or a File inside of Blue Iris.
mine is like this. D:\Blue iris\New
BI is looking to write to NEW by default.

New, Alerts and Stored are required directory names and need to be exactly those names, nothing more, nothing less. I think it's best to only have one directory named New, Alerts and Stored on the system to avoid any confusion for you or BI as well.

The "AUX" directories can be renamed however you might want to rename them.

Thank you for the replies. I read them last night and shut down the BI service, changed the folder structure as described, then moved the files into their new folders. Fired up BI again and let it run.
This hasn't improved anything. Every hour it seems to delete everything, so the most it will retain is one hour of complete camera recordings.
Here is a snip from the screen. You can see that before 4 AM there is a dark blue line which indicates that one camera's recordings have been kept. After 4 am all the camera recordings are present. At 5 am it will get rid of everything from before the 5 am recordings (except the one camera's recordings).
2022-08-04 04_30_24-.jpg

I need to revise that a little. Sometimes there are two or three camera recordings present, and sometimes there are none at all (between about 1 am and 2 am).

I think I have found something! I'll detail it in the next post.

Reviewing the settings panel in BI, I happened to notice the "Auto-protect when flagged" check box.

2022-08-04 04_51_05-i7blueiris - TightVNC Viewer Auto-protect when flagged.jpg

My system has been running for a long time. Could it have built up zillions of flagged files and it isn't able to delete them?

What's the help file say?

2022-08-04 04_56_48-i7blueiris - TightVNC Viewer Help file.jpg

I'm unchecking that box right now!

Hmm... I hoped that would magically make things better. Nothing has happened yet.
I really thought I would see the free space clean itself up but nope.

2022-08-04 05_10_03-Al's Blue Iris UI3.jpg

So I restarted BI (from a command prompt: net stop blueiris, then relaunch the program), but again, no change in disk space. So then I told it to repair the database... again, no joy!

Going to step away from this for a little while.
