Need help with a Dahua 4431 and ExacqVision

I have an ExacqVision setup at home with 7 hikvision IP cameras. I DIYed it 18 months ago and works nicely. I've been lurking here looking for suggestions on adding another IP camera. Ended up purchasing a "do not update" Dahua IPC-HDBW4431R-ZS from ebay (I had some eBay bucks burning a hole in my pocket, and probably should have never purchased this). I got it all set up by logging into it through a browser, setting static IP, etc...

When I go to add it as a new IP camera in exacqvision, it gives me a couple of different errors (depending on settings I assume). "Device reporting an error." and "Invalid username or password. The device rejected the username or password (401)."

Seems like it should easily be added to my list of camera in ExacqVision, but it is not. Tempted to find newer firmware for the Dahua, but I see all the bricked cameras. I assume as soon as I flash it, it'll probably never be accessible again! I'm also tempted to just sell it and buy something I know will work before bricking this one.

Anyone have input on updating firmware on a 4431 or ExacqVision expertise? Also to note, ExacqVision does support Dahua cameras (maybe just not this one or software version?).

I've updated a couple of Dahua cams without any problem, all with cor35vet's patched firmware. Although the fw version was the same, it solved an issue on one of them. Followed the instructions carefully, but there's always a bit of a risk, so if you don't feel comfortable doing that or don't know how to unbrick, then maybe you'd better not update. On the other hand, you didn't pay much for this cam, 2nd hand value will be low as well I guess if you'd decide to sell it instead of updating it.

I'm still happy with the "do not update" cams I purchased, after a couple of glitches at the start. Most of which were because of my inexperience with this particular brand. They work better than expected (my expectations are pretty low when I spend $60 incl. shipping on an IP cam), produce a good/good enough image at day & nighttime and give me all the features I need (e.g. Tripwire). However, there's zero after service/warranty, so forums like this are a big help.

Try this:

1) Reset the cam. Locate the small button inside and keep it pressed for at least 30 secs while it's powered. IR leds will switch on and the cam will restore to factory defaults.
2) Configure (start with just IP address and basic video settings).
3) Set up different users/passwords for the admin, ExacqVision and for direct access (if you need this). Don't let different devices share the same users/passwords.
4) Save the config.
5) Optional: power cycle the cam to be sure everything was saved correctly.

I also use Exacq and have historically used Hikvision cameras which have just worked. Decided to try a couple of Dahua cameras (and yes, they do seem better). There is a Dahua specific setup in Exacq but this didn't work for me. I ended up using just ONVIF and that worked as expected. My Dahua cameras came from @EMPIRETECANDY on here and maybe the reason the Dahua setting doesn't work is that they don't actually identify themselves as Dahua (no label cameras). Your eBay camera may be the same. Try ONVIF in exacq.

@David Lacey - that worked!! It didn't work at first because I had changed my local port number. When I changed it back 80, it connected! Gonna head out side and hang this little dude!
