I recently changed the Comcast modem to all in one modem. and set the port forwarding correctly. I check with canyouseeme.org. and the port is opened. and I can view it over the internet. but when I connected to the WiFi at home. then connection failed. Wifi off...then I can I see it. as long as not in the same network with the nvr. anyone know why? thx

Yes, this is an issue with most all in one units. Its related to nat loopback. You will need to setup a second NVR on your mobile app using the local ip address.

that's what I did...maybe time to buy a standalone modem and router!!

too bad u didn't realize this two days ago, Prime Day sale for Nighthawks for ridiculously cheap.

If you're considering VPN use, check out the Asus RT-AC68P (or other 68 variant). its pretty easy to set up once u know what you're doing.

I have the AC68P at other house. I got the all in one for free from a friend. Going to take it down tonight.

Its extremely easy to do, there are a few tutorials online. Just don't confuse things like I did. U want to set the server up and then add user names with that. I set up a client instead of server and couldn't figure out why it didn't work when I tried connecting my phone to it.

Modem+router= easy to work with. ALL IN ONE is hard.

Keep the all in one and use it as a modem only. So you don't need to buy a modem as well if you got that kind of setup /connection

If comcast is charging you for the unit return it and buy the arris 822g (if you need phone too, otherwise there are other options) You can get them for 50 used bux on ebay....paying 10 dollars a month in perpetuity is crazy. Some comcast plans include the modem though...as badman said, put it in bridge mode.
