need help with setup of DS-2CD2342WD-I for recording

I'm totally new at this.

I got the DS-2CD2342WD-I, and I found the local screen under configuration. I set the folders appropriately, on my C:\ drive. But the hikvision does not seem to be capturing anything even when I use the manual buttons on the bottom of the live view window. To make matters worse, I suspect the camera is trying to make a folder like 07/02/2017, where the / is a forbidden character for windows directory names.

any help would be appreciated. Cam is V5.4.3. BBWR series.

If this is simply manual recording using the web GUI and IE11 (which would only work while the browser is running), Windows does not trust IE11 enough to allow it to write to the location you have specified, so it's recording to a hidden, virtualised folder in your user profile instead.
Depending on what you have set for the destination folder, you can fix this either by adding the camera IP address to IE11 'Trusted Sites' or by 'running IE11 as administrator'.

I was wrong about the forbidden character. The format is indeed 2017-07-04, which is fine.
