This happened about a week ago and I decided today to put it on YouTube and post it here. At this time, they had just changed out the streetlights to LEDs. I have since upped the shutter rate to 1/125th of a second at night on these cameras and I am still playing with the new settings. Here is the video.

I guarantee you go down to the local HS parking lot and you’ll find that vehicle no problem. Police could get cell phone data and figure out exactly who those four were. I agree though, definitely looks like a dare. I'd much rather deal with that than the hoodlums we have nearby that slashed someone's pool liner and spray painted their house.

Oh, I have the license plate number. I got it as she was driving away with my license plate camera. I will post it up later. I gave all of this to the neighbors for their entertainment.

As many here may know (since I've probably mentioned it too many times) I lived in N. CA for almost 30 years. I worked city and county public works, signals and lighting. During that time I worked closely with LEO who'd share the numerous excuses given why no front plate, especially from people moving in from a rear-plate-only state, the most popular being "...only one was in the envelope." The fact was they were so thin they'd be stuck together and you have to know to expect 2 and very deliberately look for a way to pry them apart. :lol:

Same. I would much rather lighthearted pranks like this than them ringing the doorbell at midnight and running or causing actual damage.

Amateurs.......you're supposed to wait until right before some rain so that the TP gets embedded in the trees, on the shrubbery, etc. really good and messy. Now I don't know this from personal experience but have heard this to be recommended practice..... :rolleyes:

At least they had something waiting for them afterwards.

My neighbor asked me a couple days ago if I caught who rang their doorbell at midnight. It looks like they were smart about it since they chose the only house with a dumb doorbell. I wasn't able to see where they came from (must have come onto the street between houses), but they walked just past their house, likely saw their doorbell wasn't lit up (dumb), went back and ran up the driveway, rang, and disappeared. I had hoped they would have ran towards my house, but no luck.

I think part of the problem with plates in the US is you have an antiquated system of Road Tax. The UK used to have this. If people are forever removing number plates, it leads to less plate compliance. We used to have paper disc that went in a holder on the windscreen with the expiry date on it, Tax Class etc that LEO etc could read. You bought a new updated one every year. Obviously the plate system has the advantage of not having to stop the vehicle to read it, but it never was the problem in the UK because cameras on roads would read number plates anyway & automatically comapre them to the Vehicle Tax database & issue fines if out of date. Police could simply call despatch for Tax info without stopping a vehicle. Now we have a totally digital system. No disc on display. You pay your road Tax & the info goes onto the database and that's it. If the Police want the info, they call despatch or some cars have automatic number plate readers. Roadside cameras all over the country read your number plate and alert the Police or issue fines for irregularities including non payment of Tax and we even have a few (not many) DVLA vans that have cameras on the roof and drive down roads reading the number plates of every vehicle automatically including parked ones and automatically flag and issue a fine / summons to the owner of any vehicle without Tax. In some respects it's a bit big brother but it's not really a lot difference from displaying your Tax status as a Vehicle Number Plate and it stops constant interference with the plates. To prevent forged plates, we now even have strict rules on plate manufacturers who have to see evidence of vehicle ownership documents & a person's identitiy I think record them before plates can be manufacturered. Different system, but maybe an electronic one is one the US should move to. Also you wouldn't get far in the UK without a front plate. The numerous cameras would flag this along with the rear plate and you'd get aither automitcally fined or have the Police directed to intercept and stop you to issue a fine / ask questions about the missing item..
