Neighbours car takes a hit

Wife and I were watching TV when I heard a noise and said, someone just hit the parked car.

Gave the sequence of pictures to my neighbour, he drove around to see if he could find the culprit.

So I extracted the video onto a USB key but go to play it on my laptop and all three players will not play it.

Anybody know what I can do to either play the video or dump it out properly?

Your neighbor drove around trying to find the culprit? Um, why not just go to the house where the vehicle backed out from, and ask them who that person is? Not difficult at all. But honestly, I would have let the police do all this after providing the visual evidence.

That vehicle drove into the drive to back out. The video I grabbed shows that.
We live near an intersection and it is surprising how many cars will turn around and head down the other way.

So, it's a police matter, leaving the scene of an accident. My bad about not realizing it could be someone just turning around. I've had this happen to me. A drunk driver smashed into the rear of my Grandfathers cherry 1963 Chevy Bel Air parked in the front of the house. Luckily, we could follow the antifreeze trail to where the person lives, about a half mile away. Turned out they live on an old farm, and the police caught them pulling the car with a tractor around behind the barn so it couldn't be seen from the road. The Chevy was a total loss. Oddly, it was summer and the car wasn't more than 30' from the house, but no one woke up from the noise. Even though we all had our windows open.

Ouch, that sucks. I've been hit on the street also. Would like to see the video posted on youtube so I can share it with others.

In terms of getting the video off the nvr, if you are using a Dahua NVR and cut a clip(s) and save to USB it includes a player. The player is very nice to give to police if you have multiple views.

Otherwise you have to find a way to translate the .DAV to a file format which you can play.

OK, Figured out how to export a clip from the NVR. Just could not view it on my PC, wrong codec I guess.

Neighbour did not want to involve police, then he would have to report to his insurance co.

Worst part is he parked not less than 3 minutes prior to that.

Only noticed the person walking when I scooped the video to post up. Never saw anyone walking when we went out to look at the car after the noise of the hit.

This is why I like animals more than people. People suck. I don't care if it's the Pope - if they think no one is looking and they can get away with it, they do. I have returned to my car to find doors and bumpers pushed in from idiots that begin to turn before they are out of their parking spots. Never, not once, did anyone leave a note.
