I have been using a netgear router (WNR1000v2) as my main router for over ten years. On the other end of my house in the garage i have been using a NETGEAR WN3000RP repeater. In the same garage i have a older indoor swann wifi camera which i beleive runs thru my repeater. Outside farther away i have generic outdoor ptz wifi ip camera that also runs thru the repeater.
In the beginning i honestly stumbled thru getting it all to work. I do not remember the ins and outs of exactly how i got it all to work via ip addresses. Recently i bought a used router ( Linksys EA9200 AC3200 Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router ).
I started by resetting the EA9200 to its factory settings. without any connection besides electric i connected to the router via the smartphone app. I went thru the steps of setting it up as a wireless access point. I was very happy to find that it was relatively easy to setup.
I am using powerline ethernet ( D-Link DHP-309AV/RE Powerline AV+ Network Ethernet Adapter Extender kit 2 ) to connect from the main router to this new EA9200 in my garage. within minutes i was up and running. I had internet and everything via wifi coming from the EA9200 and it was pretty fast.
I then began trying to figure out how to connect the wireless ip cameras. I had no luck finding it. I downloaded and installed ( Advanced IP Scanner v2.5.3646 for Windows ). still no luck. I then considered the fact that i still had the repeater going right beside the new used router. So i unplugged it and laid it aside. I then decided to attempt a (WPS) type connection between the swann camera and the Linksys router. after doing so i went to the attached devices of the linksys router. It showed the swann camera with a wicked ip address...something like 10.245.65.100. At this point i was quite frustrated. I studied up on it and it simply made no since to me how this worked. Eventually somehow, the swann camera appeared out of nowhere on my main router as a attached device with the ip address of 192.168.1.8 and it was working in blue iris. I went to bed and when i awoke in the morning the camera was no longer working in blue iris. I did some looking and found that the IP address had changed to 192.168.13. This was a huge problem because that is the ip address i assigned for the other more distant wireless ip ptz camera.Also the Linksys router no longer had a internet connection. I removed the ethernet from channel 1 and plugged it in to the internet incoming plug and it now had a internet connection.
At this point i plugged my repeater back in and connected to it via ip address on one of my desktops connected to my main router and compared the settings. They all seemed to be very similar if not the same. So i once again removed the repeater from the equation and went back to trying to figure out the linksys router. No matter what i did the swann camera would only show as a attached device in the linksys router with a funky ip address and was invisible to everything else.i checked the settings on the linksys router and nothing had changed at all. there was no reason for it to now not work after i had slept for a few hours.
I even attempted factor resetting the linksys and starting all over. except now i cannot connect to the linksys via my app. there appears to be multiple reasons. I then brought the linksys in the house and connected it via ethernet directly to my desktop. For some reason i cannot for the life of me connect to it using the 192.168.1.1 ip address. Not sure if i should have the ethernet connected to one of the 4 or 5 channels or if i should plug it in where the internet goes. nevertheless, after working on this several hours i decided to remove the new used router from the network completely for the time being. I then went back out to the garage and plugged the repeater back in. Of course now none of the wireless ip cameras were connecting. I restarted the repeater, cameras, main router, and all desktops several times but the ip address for the cameras never appeared as attached devices in my main router like they had in the past. Upon waking up this morning i found that the farthest most distant wireless ip cam was now showing up as a attached device on my main router and is now working in Blue Iris. The swann camera still is not visible.
what could cause these ip addresses to appear, dissapear, and be reassigned? I almost want to say that the linksys router is bad but i am and have always had similar issues with the netgear repeater. if anybody has any idea what i am doing wrong ...please help.
