New 4-camera system suggestions?

Hi all,

Due to recent scumbagginess on my street, I am considering purchasing a new surveillance system. I only need one camera for my front porch (covered patio porch), two for the sides of my house, and one for my back yard. My house is ~1800 square feet, one story. I believe I could run my own wires to the cameras. I would like to stay under $700. What would you suggest?

Should I go with a DVR, NVR or PC with Blue Iris?
Should I buy a full "kit" system or build one piece-by-piece?

Any good deals I should consider?

@teaker, Welcome to the forum.
there are serveal threads that discuss a standalone NVR vs PC NVR.

If you buy your own cameras and NVR you can select custom lens sizes as well as various camera designs...

it depends on what kind of surveillance solution you would like to intall

1) Traditional analog camera system
2) AHD new camera system
3) IP system

For first of two, analog camera are easy to set up, only plug the cable and power, install the HDD into DVR would be ok.

For ip camera, it is high resolution for megapixel at least, good image, but this need to be made setting. But not that hard anyway.
