Ok - first time poster here - with no security cam experience. Apologies in advance for any dumb newbie questions or statements.

Like another Aussie forum member here - I have recently had an installer recommend that I install a multi camera setup for my home (typically covering a maximum range of around 10m / 30 feet) with 4 x 3666 and 2 x 3849H TIOC (and possibly 2 internal cams). After reading the super helpful feedback in the forum ( Is this the best set out for my current needs? ) I challenged back about the low light performance due to the high megapixel counts and small 1/2.7" sensor. I asked whether the new 2449 Pro (with 1/1.8" sensor) might be better for low light - and his supplier told him definitely not due to the lower MP = pixelated, grainy, "shitter" image. He also said that the 2 series were worse than the 3 series (not sure in what way) - and that I should go with 3849H (which seems bizarre - as that has too many MP and a small sensor!). So then I asked about 3449 PRO - and he said "that's end of life" ... hmmm, odd that something that hasn't been released yet is end of life (he must be thinking of the non PRO model)

From reading many helpful posts here - I can see that the supplier above is on a complete different page to the many members here. I realise that in Australia we don't get much choice if buying locally - but it is a shame that when something that might be better is coming soon (the new 2449 Pro or maybe 3449 Pro) - that it just gets slammed due to not enough megapixels.

Anyway - thanks to everyone for helping me to realise just how badly the suppliers recommendation would have performed!

Here are my questions though. Can anyone tell me much about real world performance (or help me translate the specifications) of the new 2449 Pro (to be sold locally in Australia as a 5MP version I think - HDW2549EMP-S-PRO-ANZ - Dahua 5MP Wizcolor Turret Fixed Camera White - DH-IPC-HDW2549EMP-S-PRO-ANZ ). As usual for Australia specific models, there is precious little info around - but I found what I think is the spec sheet here - - but I need a bit of help to understand how this might be compared to something like the new 3449 Pro (hopefully soon to come to Australia). Is the 2 series definitely "crippled" compared to the 3 series (as my supplier would have me believe) or is it just lacking TIOC features?

I guess the bottom line is this - would this 2549 Pro be worth waiting for (rather than going with the 3666 that has been strongly recommended to me)? It feels like it should be better in low light (less Megapixels, bigger sensor) - and the many youTube clips of the 2449 Pro make it look pretty impressive at night (seems like a massive leap ahead of the very average looking 3666).

Thanks for any help.

2449-PRO is cheap FullColor camera with only white light. Yes it has bigger sensor (1/1.8"), but at full dark conditions You rather will need IR not white light.
Yes demos look great - but they are cheated - mostly static images - which today even cheapest cams with small sensor can generate full color...
Look for movement - moving people/cars or trees in bigger wind - how noisy/transparent/ghosted/blurred are moving objects..
This will show You true capability of camera.

For home applications TIOC camera are much better - as functionality - they have both white and IR light plus speaker/siren/alarm (blue/red) lights..
Main problems with TIOC was that they had small 1/2.8" sensor - which is not enough for everything more that 2MPx...

Now we have TIOC-PRO (3449H-AS-PV-PRO) which is much better.
But this is very new product and for now even it doesn't have final production firmware with all image processing capabilities enabled.
You can wait for this line.. or order from Andy (Color4M in his shop is a TIOC-PRO 3449-PRO).

Second option is any 5442. Most popular camera model here on this forum. Works everywhere.
Lots of different models in different chassis, optics, colors.. Only IR, no speaker...
Also available from Andy (54IR in search box)...

Thanks so much for the comprehensive reply - very much appreciated.

Can I check if I have this right?
  • The lack of IR and speaker / siren / lights, is the main difference between a 2449 PRO and the 3449H PRO.
  • As for the comparison of 2449 PRO and 5442 - it mainly comes down to lack of IR on the 2449 PRO?
Is there anything else that makes the 2449 PRO deficient?

I'm not completely convinced of my need for the speaker / lights / siren - but it seems like the lack of IR could be a major showstopper (even at ranges less than 10 meters) - so that is awesome feedback and has opened my mind completely to the other options you mentioned.

After realising that the installer was steering me down the wrong path with the 3666 and 3849H - I was really hopeful that I had found a brilliant solution in the 2449 PRO (but was obviously still not convinced enough to blindly buy without help). Thanks for jumping in with that help!

there can be more - 2xxx is cheap no features line.. so it will be plastic enclosure, low power SOC (CPU / AI processor), cheap optics...
one plus is that PRO have better sensor.

5442 is totally different class.
Very good optics, You can choose between fixed (2.8/3.6/6.0) na two zoomed varifocal models (ZE 1-3x and Z4E 3-9x)..
Totally different CPU / SOC / ISP / AI processor with a lot of power processing.

2xxx/3xxx have basic AI capabilities (SMD and IVS).
5xxx have a lot more (Full AcuPick 2.0, Video Meta Data).
At the end of post I put some screen shots what You can do on 5xx2-S3 cam and 5xxx-EI NVR - which can't be done in lines below..

This is most popular camera model here on this forum...
Normally in official Dahua distribution it costs 400-600 USD...
We buy it from very well known on this forum OEM dealer at fraction of price...

You can contact by DM to @EMPIRETECANDY about shipping to Australia.

Lack of IR is a huge problem.
Some demonstration of 5442-S3 cam + 5xxx-EI NVR AI capabilities..
Human / faces / cars / plates detection...

For your indoor cameras, is it the 8MP model, IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV? How has the performance been during the day and night so far? I'm planning to buy a few.

@MaxMad, another Aussie here, I can vouch for Andy at EmpireTech. I purchased all my 5442's from him over the years, and not a problem. My last purchase was a few weeks ago; delivery was 7 days as they are shipped from Hong Kong (I believe).
