I just bought 4 V5EP POE cameras in December 2024. I can't delete the alarm files on the SD Card. It says there is an error and I don't have permission. I contacted Foscam support by email (what a joke) and they said that deleting the alarm files on the SD card is not supported YET. I have 3 older Foscam cameras that allow me to delete the alarm files on the SD card. Why would you release a camera that won't let you delete the alarm files? The new cameras record in a format called .FMV (full motion video) not .AVI like the old cameras. I can't find a FMV viewer for free anywhere and Foscam does not have one. The sent me a link to a .MP4 format conversion tool. I'm scared to load it. There is also a problem with the scheduled recordings turning on by itself and then I have a boatload of recordings I can't delete. I turn it off and save my settings and it's back on the next day. The only way I can clean up my SD card is to format it daily. I was a happy Foscam customer until I bought the new cameras but now I'm shopping around. If anyone has any suggestions for cameras that work well please forward and info you can. Gino Saz

Welcome!

Most here do not suggest Foscam.

What is the use case - general surveillance or IDENTIFY?

As far as cameras, without knowing what your goals of the camera is, this thread is used as the go to for the new person here outlining the commonly recommended cameras (along with Amazon links) based on distance to IDENTIFY that represent the overall best value/best bang for the buck in terms of price and performance day and night. It might be a 2MP camera in some instances.

The Importance of Focal Length over MP in camera selection

And coupled with that thread is this great thread which will show why all of the same 2.8 or 3.6mm cameras is the wrong choice:

We would encourage you to look at those threads in detail.

It will probably raise more questions than answers LOL.

I have 3 cameras that I can just monitor my yard with. I have woods behind my house and there is a lot of mainly deer but I've also seen foxes and coyotes back there. Every morning I log on and check for activity and if there is anything worth saving I save it. Then I delete all the alarm files on all the cameras and do the same thin the next day. I got the POE cameras so I could eliminate the power supplies. I'm not doing anything complicated just checking out the activity in the backyard, front yard and garage. I will take a look at the links you provided and thank you very much.
