My new HIK DS-2CD2342WD-I just arrived from AliExpress. Can anyone tell me anything about this camera based on the information which is printed on a label on the side of the camera?

FYI: This camera was advertised by the seller as "upgradable."

I've masked the serial number a bit by replacing real numbers with "X's"..

Serial No.: XXXXXX465CAN ICES-3 (A)/NMB-3(A)
Verification Code: FBSFJA
SAV: V5.3.3_150630

FYI: the box, Quick Start Guide, promotional mini-booklet, EZVIZ Cloud PP Quick Start Guide, Drill Template are all printed in English.

Here are the docs and the box...

The serial number reported by SADP is different than the serial number printed on the outside of the camera. SADP resorted the serial number as: 20150906BBWRXXXXX0465

Looks like Western Region...no?

Yes, the BBWR are true Western Region cameras. As a side note, you may still have an issue with warranty unless your aliexpress seller is an authorized re seller of Hikvision products as Hikvision only supports products sold through the correct authorized channels.

Advanced Configuration > Image > Video Adjustment allows both PAL (50hz) or NTSC (60hz) settings.

OK. I just received this Western Region camera from AliExpess...

Model DS-2CD2342WD-I
Serial No. DS-2CD2342WD-I20150906BBWRQQQQQ465
Firmware Version V5.3.3 build 150630
Encoding Version V7.0 build 150609

The camera was running POORLY: Sluggish...then responsive...then un-responsive...then non-responsive! Yikes...this suQs thought I.

So I downloaded the firmware for the model CMIP3142W-28S (file name: IPC4_V5.3.2_150915v2.zip), firmware version: "IPC4_V5.3.2_150915v2" from the LTS website. I crossed my fingers and uploaded to the camera (System > Maintenance > Remote Upgrade).

And all fixed. The camera now responds SMOKING FAST and the problems previously experienced are no more.

Thank you very much Mr. FastCamMan.

I'll tell you though...pushing that "Upgrade" button was a leap of faith!

But PLEASE think this through before you try this and NO COMPLAINTS if YOU brick your camera as result.

I understand about people saving a few bucks by ordering from Alie, but for me the headache with firmware issues and warranties just doesn't pay off in the end for me. I rather get great pricing from milkisbad/ LTS with full 3yrs worth of warranty and be done. Milkisbad even beats my local supplier (ADI) on hik prices.

I have come to agree with you...completely.

Thanks Q! I just feel for you average homeowner/purchaser, it's not beneficial in the long term.

...but I do have a powerful hankerin' for one of those Huisun Mini PTZ's those guys have been yakin' about...
