New Hikvision NVR--Can't Access Remotely

Hello All,

I had a Hikvision 8 Channel NVR that allowed me to access it remotely by typing in my outside IP address and also using my DDNS address. I replaced the 8 channel NVR with a new DS-7616NI-E2 / 16P and assigned an open IP address but when I went to access it remotely, it won't connect. So, just for heck of it, I put the old ip address in from the 8 channel and it worked.

Any ideas on what I could do to use another IP address other than the original?

Thanks

Hi @jharp0000, if I understand your post correctly, you opened ports on your router, and are trying to connect to your NVR from the internet (not from your home LAN/wifi).

That is a 100% no-fly zone: please read the VPN Primer for Noobs and Cliff Notes: NEVER EVER port forward. Period. Look into creating a VPN. Period.

Regarding using random WAN IP addresses: your ISP is handing out those, if you manually change those, your internet connection becomes unstable, unreliable and is a good recipe for disaster.

Please, read the docs mentionned above and take appropriate actions, right now, before your NVR gets compromised.

Have a nice day!

Hi CC,

Yes, you're correct; that's what I'm trying to do.

Yes, I have to anted to set up a VPN butbindomtbthink that's possible with FIOS Gateway Router. Can anyone confirm of this is accurate?

Thanks

I have no experience on a FIOS GW router, but if you can setup this thing in "bridge mode" or, portforward all ports to a DMZ IP address and put another router, you are set (for wifi I can advice ASUS, for wired I can advice Ubiquity materials like EdgeRouter X for example). Both device types have native support for OpenVPN to bring your LAN to your mobile devices wherever they are without having to port forward anything (as in: leaving your front door wide open).
