Hello all, Phil from Philadelphia. I live in a urban city environment, single family house, and I currently use nest cameras/google system. I'm not happy with using a wifi network/cloud system (but I plan to keep it tho) and I'm in the process of building/designing a security system based on the information on this site!
So far I picked up a refurbished dell 7070, wd purple hd, poe network switch, cat6, and a camera for testing. I purchased BI from this site over two weeks ago but unfortunately I'm still waiting for the access key; order says processing but no serial number
. I hope to be testing soon and I'm sure I'll have questions once I get into it.
I need to get the POE switch mounted in the basement and not in my office because it's super loud and annoying (TL-SG1428PE). I can't decide if I want the dell PC in the basement and wire the screen/input to my office or keep the PC in my office. I have a APC750 ups which I was planning to use for the poe switch and dell.
Probably will be a bit before I get ready to actually start picking cameras. In general my intent is to detect persons on my property and trying to damage or steal from my house/yard. Package theft is extremely common in our area as well as vehicles, bikes, etc. I probably will put several camera inside the house to watch our cat when we're away as well. Here is a house from my neighborhood similar to mine. Residential street to the front, houses both sides, small back yard, I have entrances front, back, one side.
