New to BI - Confused AF and need some help please!

If you run that 6950X setup make sure you try both ways of hardware accelerated decode ( via the Nvidia rtx 2060)
by going to settings / cameras and trying both the Nivida NVDEC selection and also the " NO" selection.

Thanks for everyone's replies! Sorry it took me so long to get back to the thread!

I think most of my questions are answered. Unfortunately, I think we're stuck with the Reolinks - the board members have put a deadline on finishing this project and already started mounting cameras, so I guess we'll be stuck with them - I'll play around with lighting if I have to, and hopefully, they'll be enough for our needs right now!

I guess the only question at this point comes down to the CPU...

You're correct, the X99 chipset was part of Intel's HEDT series for their "Extreme" CPU lineup that came with a lot more cores and PCIe lanes (48?) when they were still necessary. They were designed for the slightly older NVIDIA cards that supported SLI, Tri-SLI, and Quad-SLI, and, therefore did NOT have an iGPU or QuickSync.

With that said, would the 6950X (10C/20T) or Xeon (2699?) v4 (up to 18C/36T) be enough processing power Without QuickSync?

Or, should we be looking for a newer CPU with less cores With QuickSync?

Note: The only reason I'm even asking is because I have the majority of this PC brand new in the box at a much lower cost than buying say a new 10900k or 11900k, new DDR5, etc...

Note: Total MP/s will come out to around 1200-1400MP/s with the current setup, and the cameras are all a mix of 8MP, 12MP, and 16MP...

As for the GPU, I was going to grab the RTX 2060 because it was really cheap, but if it's not needed I can grab a GT 1030 or GTX 1050 for even less if it's not needed. What's recommended here if we use the 6950X without QuickSync?

As I said in Post #2, you are overthinking the computer requirements.

You mention this is a non-profit install looking to spend about $1,500 for a computer.

That is way overkill. Most here get going with a $150ish off business lease on ebay.

With substreams, your MP/s demands will not be that high.

But you also mentioned you have parts laying around, so build it and see if it works before you spend anything.

I will give that system a try! I should have clarified that I personally have those parts willing to donate cheap, but at the same time I wanted to make sure they have a system that works well.

Where I got confused were the posts stating it did not have Intel's QS, and the fact that we'll have a station at the door for remote viewing. If you think this is enough, I'll give it a go and put it together ;)

LOTS of wiring to do yet for the network, wifi, etc., but I can reply back later if anyone is wondering how it turns out!
 
+1 on wittaj’s computer comments. The 6950x and a gtx10_0 is way overkill. Take the money it represents and buy better cameras.

For your live monitors you can use very lightweight computers like old hp t620s or intel mac minis running a lightweight linux distro (Lubuntu works well) and a program like cctv-viewer-

You could also use a slightly more powerful computer running windows and display BI’s UI3 user interface.

You can insert the same rtsp camera feeds into your website.
