Today I decided to foray into setting up IVS, starting with simple trip wire rules. I set a trip wire for my 2 LPR cams, but the one LPR cam is sensing a parked vehicle with a yellow box around it. I presume it's because human and vehicle detection are selected?

Ok, so I'm on the right path.

I see why IVS is preferred to general motion detection as you can dial in the trip area and not have to worry about tree branches and other movement outside the targeted area. I imagine it helps cut down on false notifications

They use two completely different technologies

MD. Is simply looking for a change in the value of the pixels on on grid. A white pixel changes gray because of shadow (with sensitivity 10 different shades) and you get a hit. Doesn’t matter if a shadow, leaf, human, car, pig,

IVS. Uses AI modeling to distinguish a human from a car, …or pig

Keep in mind IVS won't work for LPR at night because the IVS is looking for a vehicle and all we see are plates.

At least for most of us. If you have enough light that a vehicle can be identified then yes it will trigger lol.

^^^^
This.

I run a single line of MD squares across the street for nighttime LPR detection. Because the shutter is 1/1000 or faster, you dont get many if any false alerts because it can't see shit until a plate comes by for the IR to bounce off of

So now the question, how do I set it up so that IVS tripwire is active during the Day setting but reverts to standard motion detection at night?

Simple. Each IVS rule has its own schedule as does MD

I leave my IVS rules on at night even for LPR scenes, can't hurt anything. But they rarely pick up anything

Ok, so how do I check to make sure MD is active in the GUI? I presume both IVS and MD can exist at the same time?

I think I figured it out. The version 5 web GUI can be confusing. I set the schedule for IVS to between 0700 and 1900 and now I also have a box around the entire frame.

Ok, I can't get statistics from IVS to display on the OSD (motor vehicle, no-motor vehicle, or people). What am I doing wrong?

You don't have it turned on

And keep in mind at that tight field of view, it may not count many vehicles.

You chose the wrong cameras (LPR) for testing IVS lol :lmao:

LOL that is why I mentioned now that IVS won't work at night....because I knew what your post would be tonight when it got dark :lmao:
Well, it's a good learning experience for GUI 5. Now, I'll have to mess with GUI 3 because they are totally different. Best way to learn is to do and make mistakes - don't be afraid to make mistakes because everybody does at some point
