Hello all,
I have taken what seems to be an all too common route to find myself here. The crime rate in the neighborhood seems to be picking up so the boxed security systems at the warehouse stores looked intriguing. After a little research to see which is the "best" the decision was made that I don't know squat. I had a few quotes from local companies to install a proper system, mostly so I don't have to run the wiring myslef, and realized none of them seem to use equipment that garner a good value recommendation on here. I have read through many forums, articles, the pdf's on the basics and have come to the conclusion I want to try and do this myself. I have access to computers and POE switches and very good prices so I think this is what my system will look like:
HP Desktop computer (Not sure on the exact model at this point as it is at no cost) w/ Blue Iris
Cisco POE switch (thanks to a sick hook-up)
NAS w/ WD Purple HDs
8 Dahua ipc-hdw5231R-Z as I think they will work well in all locations
Am I missing anything?
I look forward to contributing to and drawing knowledge from this site as I climb my learning curve and tackle the installation.
