Hello all, In the information gathering mode at the moment. I was looking at the Dahua N53AJ52 5MP starlight turret camera along with a recorder (TBD), but does anyone have an opinion on this Dahua camera?
Seems like it has decent resolution and the night vision capability.
Thanks
First thing to do is read the material in the WiKi, in the blue bar at the top of the page. Pay a lot of attention to the Cliff Notes in there. Then, use the search tool, also in the blue bar on the far right, to have a look around this forum for information on the camera(s) you may be interested in or specific questions you may have after reading that material. The current "king of the hill" in the Dahua line is the 5442 series, 4MP, starlight camera series. There are still newer models coming out in this series so it may pay to wait a little before making a final decision. The best way is to buy one, varifocal, in the model line you decide on, mount it on a test rig (bucket full of sand or rocks with a 2x4-8' sticking up to mount the camera on) and checking out proposed locations which will allow you to determine proper focal lengths for a fixed focal length camera.

That cam is a 2.8mm (wide angle FOV) cam with 5MP on a 1/2.7" sensor. It will not give you good low light color performance. Compare it to the T5442 series which has 4MP on a 1/1.8" sensor. Also, unless you are looking for a view that is just an overview, or position it where someone would be forced to be fairly close, you will not get a good enough face shot for ID.
This is an intermediate / newbie guide for people just starting out looking for a surveillance setup. I know this setup might not be for everyone and there are many options. You can find a lot of this information in the Wiki: IP Cam Talk Wiki | IP Cam Talk A great place to start in the Wiki...
