Noob from Minnesota. Leaning towards Empiretech.

I've been searching on here for the last few weeks to try and decide which system would best fit my needs. I live in a rural area on a 55acre farm with my house and many barns and buildings. I would like to have cameras set up to watch the perimeter of my house to start with then expand to cover my buildings in the future.

I would like at least 4 turret cameras, one on each side of my house. It seems like this goes against all standards, ethics and moral code of most people in this group but I would also like to get a couple WiFi battery cameras. I have a few spots I'd like to reach that it would be just too difficult to run cables and power to. an example would be down my drive way that is about 100 yards away from my house and about 300 yards long.

I am leaning towards the Empiretech system (EmpireTech Kit2 8/16-Camera Capable NVR System with 1/1.8" CMOS 4MP Turret Cameras) but still not sure if that will cover what I am looking for.

If someone would give me hand and point me in the right direction or recommend a system that is more suited for my need i would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Matt

You need to decide in part the following:

  • Do you want OVERVIEW or IDENTIFY?
  • IF IDENTIFY at what distances. A camera cannot identify at 15 feet and 50 feet. That would be two different cameras.
  • Do you need lowlight performance
  • Are you ok with infrared or are you willing to provide light and/or use built in white light.
Now what people will find is 4 cameras, one on each corner of the house, makes for ok overview, but doesn't help with IDENTIFY in the entry points in to the house.

Wifi cameras at 100 yards will slow your internet down. These cameras do not buffer like a Netflix, so over time every lost packet that the router asks the camera to resend builds up and slows the system down.

See this thread for the commonly recommended cameras (along with Amazon links) based on distance to IDENTIFY that represent the overall best value in terms of price and performance day and night. This helps narrow down the camera choices to your needs from the big list.

I am looking for just overview to start with and plan to add identify cameras in the future. I just want to get my toes in the water and get on the right path before I go all out on a complete system. I would like low light. I do have lights set up in the higher traffic areas and around the building entry's. I still think having a Wi-Fi camera set up for just motion it what I'm looking for. I would like to aim that down my driveway.

The best piece of advice would be to buy one camera like the 54IR-ZE varifocal and learn and play with it.

Make a temp rig and move it around and see what is possible, and not, with these cameras.

There is currently a sale by trusted member @EMPIRETECANDY - these are Dahua cameras without the logo, so you get them at a discount.

Welcome @BENDERXLR8

I personally prefer a solid core IP PoE system augmented with a couple of cloud cameras for alerts and easy mobile views for the family. ( the cloud cameras are wifi .. and only a couple for key areas like the driveway and front door. All critical views are covered by the core IP PoE cameras )

Definitely recommend the better cameras that Andy sells.

in terms of NVR :
Get the 16 port better NVR imho, as sooner or later you will like more cameras and the 8 channel / port version I find too limiting on number of cameras it supports.
