NVR overrides camera settings

Hi all.

I was wondering if someone could help me. I got my DS-7604NI-K1/4P and 3 x DS-2CD2355FWD-I 6MP cameras.
I'm confused with the settings. I cleared all recording and triggers on NVR. I logged into cameras directly and set intrusion detection, recording, arming times and alarms. Nope nothing got recorded and no notifications.
Went into NVR and set recording times and alarms. It is all working.
Does it mean that NVR overrides camera settings?
When I was checking camera settings there was nothing under HDD option. Should I add NVR as a HDD. I'm sure I missed something.
The reason I ask is that camera has more options for the triggers (expert mode, min and max for intrusion detection).
It will be great if someone could point me into right direction.

You are configuring the camera's events settings here.

You haven't yet told the NVR what to do about recording.

Went into NVR and set recording times and alarms. It is all working.
You are configuring what the NVR should do with the event notifications it receives from the cameras connected to it.

Does it mean that NVR overrides camera settings?
To some extent, yes, but not so much override as provides a handy 'proxy' interface via the NVR where some of the most often used configuration items in the camera can be set. The NVR is managing the camera via the NVR admin interface as a proxy to doing this directly on the camera.

What can be confusing is when setting the camera configuration directly, and then later attempting the same settings via the NVR web GUI (such as the camera video settings), does the NVR first read what the camera settings currently are so it presents the as-is state for you to change, or does it make a start with camera settings locally stored in the NVR. I think this varies a bit with the NVR firmware version and the specific setting.

No, the NetHDD in the camera is aimed at configuring an additional network-accessible storage destination such as a share on a NAS for the camera to use directly.

The reason I ask is that camera has more options for the triggers (expert mode, min and max for intrusion detection).
The level of support in the NVR firmware for the more advanced camera configuration settings varies with the NVR firmware version, and gets progressively better as new versions are developed.

Thank you very much for taking the time and posting detailed explanation.
I set everything in the camera including recording schedule. Unfortunately that didn't transfer into NVR and nothing got recorded. I went ahead and removed all settings from cameras. Back to NVR and set everything there. Everything worked as it should.
I'm happy with basic intrusion detection. It does pretty good job. Hopefully next firmware will add a little more functionality.

I also discovered how to get best use of HikVision app. Using Asus router I enabled VPN sever. Also added No-IP service and enabled it. Using android phone I connected to router VPN. When there I added NVR in the app using local IP address. The loading speed is much much faster than Hik servers. However for notification I added same NVR again but in cloud mode. So now I get a notification and totally lag free viewing. I know that everyone knows about it but it might help someone new. It is better option than opening ports to the world.
