I've scoured the Hickvision manuals, FAQs, etc, and found nothing to describe the network behavior with built-in and external POE switches. Starting with the built-in POE switch, I have the impression from reading other posts that cameras plugged into the built-in POE ports are totally isolated from the network that the NVR is plugged into. That they are on their own subnet, not accessible via the port that connects the NVR to the network. Is that correct? Does that mean that the built-in POE switch is actually a router with a DHCP server? Changing the subject to an NVR without built-in POE ports. Some of the Hikvision NVRs have dual network ports, which can be run independently in "multi-address" mode. Would it work and/or make sense to use one port to connect to the network, and the other to connect to a POE switch for the cameras? If it works to use it this way, would the POE switch and cameras be isolated from the network, logically equivalent to having a built-in POE switch? Or will the cameras be visible on the entire network and use the network's DHCP server? Or does it work in some entirely different way?

The NVR PoE ports are on a separate IP segment, by default not accessible from the NVR LAN interface segment.
But they can be made accessible fairly simply.
Lot's of threads on that topic.
Does that mean that the built-in POE switch is actually a router with a DHCP server?
Not, it's just a switch, connected to a network interface in the NVR.
