I'm becoming a fan of Dahua products. Much of this stuff is a science project now due to the variety of models. Moving into looking at NVRs now, do you need to homerun each IP camera directly to the NVR, or can you connect the IP cameras to a PoE switch and then one connection from the switch to the NVR? There are some areas where its best to have PoE managed switch, then one longer run from the switch to my IT closet.

Many people do that. You simply then connect that switch to the WAN/LAN port of the NVR, not the POE port of the NVR.

While some have been successful connecting more than one camera to the NVR POE port this way, it usually involves some other things to make that happen, so the easiest and best is to the WAN/LAN port.

And if you buy a built-in PoE model, you can do a mixture of both, some on the PoE ports of the NVR, others via an external switch
