I have 4 Amcrest 1179's coming and I want to use them with an NVR that has Person/Vehicle detection since these cameras have no AI built in. Does the Dahua NVR5208-4KS2 have AI or does it just use the cameras AI functions? Looking for recommendations if not. Thanks.

The NVR's with '-I' have AI built in.
Example, my NVR5216-16P-I.
Do be aware of the hefty price tag.

I reckon it would be cheaper to replace your cameras with AI ones or build a decent machine to run a VMS (like Blue Iris).

Maybe that would be an alternative: Try to get the "old" WizSense NVR2-I Series. For example the NVR2104-I or NVR2108-I. The old models have:

1-channel face detection and recognition (AI by NVR); or 2-channel perimeter detection (AI by NVR); or 4-channel SMD (AI by NVR) Search by target classification (human, vehicle); up to 10 face databases and 5,000 face images
And they have/had a very cheap price (in Europe/Germany) ;)
NVR2104-I = ~ € 80,--
NVR2108-I = ~ € 130,--

The new -I2 models have only 1-channel perimeter detection (AI by NVR) but SMD 3.0.

You can still find the "old" WizSense models on the German website of Dahua.
