Just picked up NVR5216-16P-4KS2E & 6 IPC-T5842T-ZE from Empiretecandy and need guidance on how to setup the NVR5216 to record on motion detect. I've read NVR User Manual V4.4.9 & V4.5.3 and still can't get it to record on motion. Here are some screen shots...... HELP!!!! Is it because I'm missing the "Motion Detect" on the Camera Tab?

Do you have motion detection set/enabled on the camera?

Don’t use the encode tab on the NVR. Set EVERYTHING other than record schedule on the camera itself.

Use h.264 not h.265 it provides little to no benefit and creates problems

Once you have set things on the camera, reboot the NVR to allow them to synch

See posts #1and 2 for tips

Why not use 265? Just asking because i read that it is better for recording time and not taking too much space on hard drive. Can you tell me more about that?

The h265 will be a softer picture than the h264 yes and h265 has worst motion artifacts. I would have Dahua look at Chromatic Aberration and Anti Alias tuning in code. Also default sharpness can be lowered. Sure you can save the recordings via H.265 compare to the H.264, but will lost some sharpness.

So if i use a lot of ivs and notifications you suggest to use 264 but 265? What about the space on hdd

Get 1 8TB should be OK if just IVS recordings. If not enough add another 8TB.
This NVR can hold 2*10TB.

No it is not only ivs recording. It is 24 hours recording and i have ivs enable if i leave the house. So not use 265 for this purpse?

Members here have shown very little actual HD savings using 265. It’s simply not worth the degraded image quality and other complications it can introduce.

Your choice
