OpenVPN Problem.

Hi guys, I have a problem setting up openVPN. I have a netgear r7000 rounter with dns enabled. I have downloaded the proper files to both machines and copy pasted the config files to both machines. My ntp server time is correct. When I run openVPN I get: WARNING: No server certificate verification method has been enabled.

I am not sure what to do at this point. I am not tech savy enough to understand the problem or how to correct it. I have been to OpenVPNs Howto page and do not understand the steps I need to take. Ive also read nayr's post several times but its not detailed enough to explain this problem. Please help.

Are you talking about Dynamic DNS? I dont use it and mine works fine.

if you're talking about the basic setup, I just use "Get Dynamically from ISP"

I meant I have the dns set up in the router. You have to setup a dns on the router in order for the vpn to make the config file.
 
The ovpn file and the key files all have to be in the same directory.

Correct. I copied the key file to the openVPN config folder.
 
Actually I dont think you have to setup Dynamic DNS but if your IP changes then its necessary. I did not.

I see a lot of posts online about that issue but I'm no network guru. I followed the steps from Netgear and this good tutorial.

Thx bigred. Good vid. But I did everything just like he said. I have redone everything four times. Still same exact message. My IP changes so i had to set it up.
 
You need more than just the ovpn and key file. You also need the two .crt files.
clientname.ovpn
clientname.key
clientname.crt
ca.crt (the certificate authority .crt)

Correct. I copied all four files. Still no joy. I posted over in the openVPN forum. We'll see what they come up with.
 
I had a difficult time with VPN on the netgear r7000 router. Even flashed ddwrt on it w/o luck. Returned it and bought an Asus router. So simple to setup and very happy with it, cheaper also.
 
I have the r7000 as well..... Got it working eventually but I ended up installing OpenVPN Server on my Blue Iris Win10 Server as the r7000 was really an extra since I had to use something different for Comsuck. Bit of a pain at the beginning, but now it’s all working very well with 2048-bit encryption
 
OpenVPN on R7000 was smooth to setup, but could have been improved upon in newer firmware. T-Mobile ASUS Cellspot is going for $49 on Amazon, anyone tried flashing original AC68U firmware? Was trying to recommend it to a few

I have a Netgear R7000(AC1900) router and installation of OpenVPN was straightforward and has worked for a couple years now. I flashed latest Asuswrt-Merlin firmware on the R7000 this past Fall and OpenVPN installed without any problems and works fine as well. I would probably suggest starting over from scratch and see if you get different results. Maybe the logs might show what might be causing your issue....

Is that so you have a dyndns setup or so you can tunnel into your home network?

Hi Bboy. The dyndns comes from my Comcast Netgear C7800 router... then I port forward the OpenVPN port to the BlueIris machine OpenVPN Server port for TUN.
This is purely just so I can access BlueIris via the web UI3 or use the BlueIris app on iPhone.

Got it. That's what I thought. I use no-ip. Works like a charm
