Hello all,

Thanks to everyone for their posts and effort on this forum. I am planning a camera system for my house that will likely have 4 x 2mp starlights for the time being. I can foresee adding 3-4 more cameras in the future. I'll probably stick with the 2mp starlights unless something more worthwile comes along.

I would like to use blue iris as my nvr. Would anyone be willing to give me an opinion on this used HP machine? I've read the wiki and figure I'll start with the Gen 6 processors to help futureproof the setup. I'm ok spending a little more to get something better if this machine is lacking.

HP Elitedesk 800 G2 i7-6700 3.40GHz 256GB SSD 8GB Windows 10 Pro. Price on ebay is $276.

Thanks for your comments!

price is too high for a 6700.

Excellent, I've got time. I'll keep watching the auctions.

look for a variety. I saw a i7-8700 go for $550 shipped a few days ago with 16gb ram and ssd.

A few i5-8500 have been going for around 320-400 shipped

these could leave you for more room to upgrade to more cams in future if you spend a bit more.

I bought the HP EliteDesk 800 g2 off ebay. Built like a brick xxxxx, and very easy to work on.

Mine came with an i5-6400 CPU which showed constant 40% CPU load with 4 Dahua cameras.. I put in an i7-6400 with much better results.

I also replaced the main HDD with an SDD I had lying around, but could only afford a WD Blue 4TB for data at this time. The WD Purple will come later.
