My BI system also serves as a general work computer for basic tasks - email, Word, Excel, and my kids plays Roblox on it fairly often. It's a good system, I7-8700, 32 GB RAM, and it came with a low profile single slot RX550 4 GB GPU installed.
When gaming, the GPU gets crazy hot - 90-93 degrees C, fans are all full speed, super loud, etc. So I took that GPU out and plugged a full size RX550 into the x4 slot and get the same good performance, card stays around 60 C when gaming, and the fan is very quiet even with the case open since the card doesn't physically fit into a SFF. A nice plus is that I can run two displays off the GPU instead of one off the GPU and another off the integrated card.
After seeing how nicely that worked out, I've started reading r/SleepingOptiplex and there are some pretty nice builds out there. There's a single slot RTX 3050 6 GB card that people are using with these Optiplex PCs. Power draw is more than double that of the RX550, but it's still low enough to run off the PCI x16 slot without any additional hookups and the system still stays within the limits of the power supply.
So I've ordered the Yeston 3050 card from Amazon and it'll be here in a couple weeks.
Question is - can BI take advantage of this new card? Any features like AI that I could have running on the card?
