Ordered my cameras and PC....NEED HELP...NOOBIE!!!!

Ok, configure your TP LINK switch to be on the 192.168.1.1 network. Plug in a computer to the switch and configure the computer to either a static ip on that range or if you enabled DHCP on that switch it should hand out an IP to your PC in that range and you can configure your cameras.
 
So, I think I have got it now, and thank you to peeps for helping me out so far....

1. So the ip address of the BI PC - 192.168.0.44 - connected to home net - I changed this to 192.168.1.100
2. what is the ip address of your router - 192.168.0.1
3. Attached IP camera (Dahua 5231), and then ran the config tool. I changed the IP address to be static 192.168.1.101
4. Search setting of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255
5. Opened up IE browser and typed in the IP address of 192.168.1.101 - BOOM opened and can view camera

SOOOOO....Firstly is that correct? Secondly, do I now just simply install all the cameras to the POE switch and set up as above?

I have the VPN router arriving tomorrow (openvpn), which is set up so that I will plug my ISP Modem router, then to the new VPN router, and then to the network. Point being the whole house will be VPN secure.
 
Is that correct above? I have not had to configure the switch in anyway....but do you advise configuring the switch to this network now?
 
Was that switch brand new? The default IP of that switch should've been 192.168.0.1. If it's working now then its probably configured already.
 
No, I bought it second hand. I am trying to access to GUI of the switch but cannot (192.168.0.1)....I am trying to find a way...
 
Nope.....Frustrating....Ill have a play around....and see if I can get in...otherwise Ill just leave it as it is
 
Right sorted....I have managed to find the switch and the IP for the switch.

Am I correct in saying that you want me to change the IP to 192.168.1.1 of the switch? The BI PC is at 192.168.1.100, and cameras starting at 192.168.1.101.

Should I then not change the switch to 192.168.1.102 or something higher? Sorry I am a newbie...so being a bit thick maybe!!!!
 
Disregard what I said. I only said to change the switch so that it is on the same network as the camera so you can initialize it.
 
Hi everyone. So now that I have one camera connecting properly, do I change the IP address of each camera before mounting? Or do I do that after mounting?

Another question I have is that I have a number of wired access points around the house, and was thinking of using these to connect a small POE switch to and then connecting the camera. Then using the logic above I would then change the IP address. Is it that simple? It avoids me having to run extra lengths of cable.
