OS upgrade

I am shortly upgrading my OS from Vista to Windows 10, and will need to re-install all my application software. I still have my V 4.6.2.1 BI Setup file from the original install in September 2017, but can't locate the e-mail from BI with the license key. Only the first and last 5-characters of the 25-character key are shown in the About tab of the BI interface. The Help file implies that the Export Settings feature in the About tab dialog will save all the camera and BI settings to a file that can be imported after the BI re-install, and suggests that the license key would also be imported as long as it's not imported to a different PC. Is my interpretation correct? If not, is there a legitimate way to retrieve the license key?

No, your license key will not be backed up.
BP2008 blue iris update helper can find your code for you.

Some things to note. A pc running vista is really old and likely a power hog. For 100 bux or so you can upgrade to a much more modern pc that will use way less power and have more cpu power for blue iris and includes windows 10. You are likely paying more to run that old pc than it would cost to upgrade to a modern efficient machine.
This is a good time to upgrade to BI5. Its only 30 bux.

It's good to be prepared to reinstall everything but . . . I just upgraded one of my Win7 machines to Win10 and it didn't affect any software at all.
It was an upgrade and free too - and not a clean install of Win10.
Are you certain that reinstalling everything will be necessary?

He’s running vista. A clean install should always be done using the ms media creation tool.

First off, thanks for the reply and suggestions. This is a home PC (Dell Inspiron desktop) running BI with a single Foscam R2. I purchased the camera and BI license principally to learn about IP cameras and BI. (I have since purchased a refurbished Dell OptiPlex 3020 running Win 10 and BI to manage 5 IP cameras at our model airplane field. You recommended this machine to me back in 2017 and it's been working great.) I've struggled with the decision of upgrading versus scrapping the Inspiron for the last year or so, precisely for the reason you articulated. But I hate throwing stuff away that still works - must be my blue collar upbringing. Plus several years ago I installed a 500 GB SSD to replace the failing HDD, and it runs just fine for our purposes. The main reason for upgrading to Win 10 is security - we use the machine for on-line banking and shopping. I'm already $105 down the upgrade road for a legit copy of Win 10 from Microsoft. I may still end up scrapping the machine if things go south in the OS upgrade project. I'll chalk it up to a lesson learned. I will likely upgrade to BI 5 as you suggest.

Thanks again.

Yes your could Have purchased a machine with windows 10 pro already licensed for the 105. Put a kilowatt meter On the Inspiron You’ll be surprised. No sense throwing good money after bad.

Just purchased a refurbished Dell Optiplex 3020 w/ Win 10 Pro for $147 at Amazon. Will return the $105 Win 10 32b USB flash drive when it arrives. Thanks for the advice.
