Does anyone know if I buy a PC that has a Windows 8 COA embedded in the UEFI BIOS from factory, am I able to install Win10 or Win7 with the proper license or is it limited to what's registered in the BIOS?

Thx!

Should be OK, at worst you might have to install W8 then upgrade as a one time exercise after which if W10 activates you can do a fresh install of W10 anytime afterwards.

My HP desktop from eBay I just did a straight install of W10 and it activated with no issues.

Thanks, I am also looking at an SFF HP desktop from the bay of E, time to replace my main "desktop". It's actually a very old laptop, the HP Elitebook 8440.

Depends on what you want to run in terms of cams but with substreams enabled you no longer need to get a top spec. Also don’t go for the really small form factor machines as they can have a mobile version of the CPU and they won’t accommodate full size hard disks. For me getting a desktop that can accept a 2.5” hard disk or an SSD slot and 2 3.5” hard disks is a must.

This isn't for cams, just my main PC that needs an upgrade which is currently an old HP Elitebook 8440 with an i5-520M CPU. I ended up snagging an HP SFF 290 with the i7-8700 3.2ghz for what I think was an absolute steal at 300 bucks and free shipping. It comes with a 256gb SSD and 8gb RAM, both of which I will replace/upgrade with 32gb RAM and add a 2TB 3.5" SATA drive for files. When looking at performance, I go by the number value assigned for the PassMark CPU benchmark. Seeing how my current CPU is 1694, and the i7-8700 is 13,120, I think it should be quite the improvement.

My cams run on an old HP M7-1015DX laptop with the i7-3610QM processor and that thing sings all day with 16 cams at about 12% CPU.
