People counting NVR/IP camera suggestions?

I am in the planning stages of an IP camera setup for several retail stores which will have a maximum of 8 cameras. People counting or customer traffic is a requirement and I'd like to kill two birds with one stone.

Could someone please advise me on the best solution; NVR based people counting, or camera based people counting, or is both required. I will need to have a daily export of the data in some format.

Suggested products would be great. I have been very happy with Dahua and Hikvision in the past, but I'm open to any suggestions, including software based if there is a good solution out there.

Thanks for the link. I have been there before, but it doesn't provide much info on models which are supported. I have a variety of Dahua cameras and a DHI-NVR5232 but none have this function.

I'm trying to steer away from the cloud solutions as they have ongoing fees which add up quite quickly. I'd prefer to have an owned solution that I manage.
