Looking for suggestions on economical components to build a 5 camera system with expansion capability to 8. I'm not a newbie, but I've been running BI on 5 USB cams for 10 years and it's time to get higher resolution and low light capability. I don't need anything fancy. Just outdoor cams. I'd like to stay under $300. I'm in Costa Rica so prices are about double the US, $600 here. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

Hi @OldGringo

My assumption is that you have a lot more issues with rain and humidity than most of us, so do look up how to properly install the connectors here in the various thread where we cover it ..

5 PoE Cameras, cabling, a PoE switch, and supplies under $300 in the USA .. imho will be a challenge

Are there costs for VAT like taxes / Tariffs when bringing in equipment from outside of Costa Rica ?

Weather isn't much of a factor. It's no worse than SE Texas or FL and most of my cams positions are covered.

Shipping, import duties and tariff generally totals 50% on electronics. Buying local can be close to the same and quality products are very expensive. China has their hooks in deep.

Thanks for your input.

The Amcrest 1179EW is cheap. Empiretech cams will be the 1st choice, but your budget is too low.
