I have the internet blocked on the VLAN for BI and cameras. Is there a specific port(s) that BI uses for the update or is it just standard port 80 and 443?

Standard HTTPS port 443 (TCP) is used for the update check. You would also need to allow DNS queries. Of course if you allow DNS and TCP 443 from the Blue Iris machine's IP, then you're certainly allowing a lot more than just Blue Iris update checks. It would not surprise me if the majority of Windows's telemetry, updates, etc, also operate with TCP 443.

I'll just open up the internet on that system when I need to manually run a check then. I suppose I could d/l the file and copy it over as well.

Download and copy would be the preferable way if your intent is to keep the system isolated!
