Possibly dead IPC-T54IR-ZE

Hey guys,

I am running a setup with 11 x IPC-T54IR-ZE that have served me very well since February 2021. They are and have been powered by 2xUnifi US-8-150W switches and I run them through a Synology DS 1522+ along with SSS. Never had an issue, until now.

Now for the issue: SSS reported that it lost connection with one of them a couple of times last week but connection was re-established within seconds. So I didn't pay attention. But then 2 days ago it dropped again and didn't come back. Last night I unplugged it from the switch, it came back 3 minutes and dropped again. I tried again today and it remained disconnected. I switched ports on the switch with another camera, it's not the switch or the PoE it's putting out. I checked cable continuity, it's not the cable.

So at this point is there anything else I can try to bring it to life? Is this to be expected after only 3 years?

PS: As an aside, what' the difference between the IPC-T54IR-ZEs I bought over 3 years ago and the S3s sold today for $20 more than then? I see it's still the top recommendation here but I am a bit skeptical that no better choices have hit the market in all these years,

Thanks!

I had one bug out like that.

I held the reset in to hear the IR filter click 5 times and it had been fine since.

I think in Mt case the firmware got wonky.

If you have an SD card in the camera, that can do it to.

The new model with S3 is such an improvement. Newer chipset that they probably could have named a new model.

There are 8MP with a 1/1.2" sensor out now but most here would still go for the 5442 (54IR) model. The 8MP suffers from showing these cameras are not infinity focus and they do not see infrared.

Just because continuity shows ok, there could still be a problem with the cable.
The outdoor connector to the cam, could have corrosion in it if you didn't put Dielectric grease in the connector and properly watered proof it at time of install.

I just connected a different working cam in its place and it worked just fine (pulled it from a different location). So at this point I am 100% sure it's not the switch or cable. I saw no signs of water intrusion (from what I can tell).

I'll try to reset it tonight, hopefully it will do the trick. Any idea what is the most recent working firmware for these cams?

Previous to the S3 version, I believe this is the most recent firmware for that camera.

If it is dead, you will not be able to load firmware.

Pull the cam down, take it to your test bench, and try a short, premade cable. If that does not work, try a POE injector or a power supply.
