Power consumption - NVR vs. PC with Blue Iris

What are the power consumption differences between an NVR and your typical PC with Blue Iris? I understand that its going to vary greatly depending on the PC setup, but I am just wondering if a PC is going to draw a ton more wattage than an NVR.

PoE camera power draw aside, I imagine an NVR would consume less power than a dedicated PC. If you had an NVR with POE vs a PC with POE switch, I'll bet the NVR wins in terms of less power. Having said that, if you have a PC that serves multiple purposes (same machine runs Blue Iris, pfsense, plex, and your daily driver), then the fraction used for Blue Iris might be less power than the NVR. I have a server that is always on anyway for other things, so loading Blue Iris as a VM adds very little additional consumption of power (for now). I have 4 cameras and still adding to my collection, but with the substream update, my utilization is around 1-3%. So I guess maybe 5W of power in that case? It's hard to quantify how much power a VM consumes.

I'd imagine the NVR would use less. However, the brand name small form factor machines only sip on power too. A Dell Optiplex 7040 uses only 34 watts.
