I have a Dahua IPC-T5442T-ZE but can't get the PTZ working. I did go to the PTZ/Control settings in BI and followed some suggestions on this forum but it didn't work. When I select "Network IP" to Amcrest/Dahua the camera first gets blurry when clicking on the +Loop or -Loop in BI. All other "Dahua ..." settings for "Network IP" don't do anything.

That is not a ptz camera, its a a motorized varifocal. You dont need BI to control it as you can simply set it using the cameras own interface. It is not meant to be adjusted after setting it up.

Thanks for the info. I guess I totally misunderstood the description. I can adjust the zoom on the web portal and I mistakenly expected I could do the same through BI. I guess I got that wrong... That would have been nice. Oh well...

You can do it with BI. You need to set it correctly. But again, completely pointless for the reasons I stated.

Oh, so how can I get this working in BI? I am using a home automation system that integrates with BI so I might be able to dynamically adjust zooming based on certain events. That will be an experiment, though but in order to try it I have to have the right settings.

Its useless, the varifocal is slow and you cannot set presets in the camera. Furthermore when you can only zoom and not P/T you are very limited as to what you can capture. Buy a ptz if thats why you want.

I agree, it is somewhat slow, especially getting focus. I must have enabled some features that automatically zooms in as it keeps on changing the zoom level even if just a cat is passing by. Anyways, noted, I will just buy the fixed version. Cuts down the cost, too.

There is no camera feature that automatically zooms in. Unless you have set BI or other automation to send a zoom command. The benefit of a VF is that you can get the exact focal length maximizing pixel density by not capturing anything you dont need.
