Question re Hikvision cameras and triggering streams

Hi, I have 2632 bullets. However, I am sure that the same question will apply to many Hikvision models.

I have 8 * 2632s and have done quite a lot of playing with them using inbuilt software, zoneminder, Xeoma and others.

What I would like to know is: "Can the streams from the camera be triggered by Motion Detect in the camera?"

From my experimenting, it seems as if the streams (1 and 2) are continuous regardless of any camera setting. Whereas (for example) record to NAS is triggered by camera motion detect (etc).

I am using max quality/res H264 on stream 1 and low res on stream 2.

I am sure many of you know the answer and it would save me mucking around for hours more. I had thought that the setting "Trigger Channel" would do exactly what I want but this does not seem to be the case. BUT I could easily be missing something.

Best Regards,
Dave

Hikvisions VMS can do it (free)..Milestone and exacq can as well (50 dollars per camera minimum, 100 if you want certain functions like writing to nas)..
Do you have more than those 8 cams?

Hi, thanks for the prompt reply.

However, perhaps I was unclear. The Hikvisions have two streams plus they can write to NAS or other disk depending upon conditions.

What I would like to know is:

Can the two RTSP streams be turned on/off by the camera motion-detect/intrusion/line-crossing? I do not want to run alarm cables from the cameras although I do realise these could be used to tell another device or software to start/stop recording. In all my experiments to date, the two streams are always available regardless of motion or any other detection. It would be trivial for the camera firmware to turn the streams on/off and I had assumed this when I bought them. Perhaps I have missed something and it IS possible? If so, I would be very grateful to know how.

The reason is that I have 8 cameras and will certainly add two more. I am happy to use the camera event detection but want to view/analyse the data on a server. There is no need for fulltime video processing on the server. I also do not use Windows- everything is UNIX/Linux.

Thanks,
Dave

No problem. I think you are misunderstanding how in camera motion works...The rtsp stream is always being sent...it does not turn on and off...the record command is set to the server by http not by any outside alarm wire.... there is very little processing is done if the server is not displaying the stream or recording it...
Exacq runs on linux as well..but like i said you are going to have to pay per cam...

Hi, thanks for that. Yes, you have helped my understanding considerably. I am currently trialling Xeoma & I will check what it can handle.

Many thanks,
Dave
