Hello everyone!
I am upgrading my 4 ch DVR to an 8 ch. currently I have Dahua 8mp cameras and I am adding (based on recommendations here) the EmpireTech Z12E S2 for capturing license plates on long ranges.
I would like to add a good facial detection camera at the front door and looking for a recommendation for a good one which would work with my Dahua setup.
Thank you!

Are you looking for face detection that only identify the presence of a face, or face recognition can identify an individual based on their face?

If you are looking for recognition, you would need an NVR capable of it to take advantage of that feature.

Keep in mind that most of us have found that facial identification is more gimmicky and novelty than anything else. If you have to put in 5 or 10 or 15 or 35 pictures or more of yourself in the system for it to recognize it is you...then you shouldn't expect much.... My success rate was under 5% so I moved on to other things LOL. YMMV

It can work in certain situations like a business that requires everyone to stop in front of the camera and the camera is at head height. Outside of that, the percentage of being accurate is probably not going to be super high. You will get a lot of false "confirmations" doing a search.

Someone here posted once how horrible it was inside his house identifying his neighbors and others as him. Another guy his kids and wife were being tagged as him inside the house.

Unless you spend the big bucks that casinos and airports have LOL.

Heck even in ideal situations like a business with the camera at ideal height and optimal lighting it fails....

What do you think of Dahua's "Uyghur Warnings"?

Don't get me wrong, it is fun to play with and is getting better, but I certainly wouldn't want to rely on it for like unlocking a door LOL.

My slightly older S2 5442 turret did a very good job with Face Detection at the front door.

I didn't make the jump to Recognition though

The current 5442-Z4 with Video MetaData enabled does a great job with it

I have facial DETECTION running during the daytime on:

2x Color4K/X
1x T5449H-ASE-D2

And facial DETECTION running 24/7 on:

1x SD1A404XB-GNR
1x HDBW5441F-AS-E2-3.6mm

The 5441 is the infamous BoobieCam mounted in my front entrance. This allows me to get face shots of everyone entering my front gate and exiting my front door. I run an AirBnB in Cuba and like to know exactly who's in and out. The lens facing the street can grab up to 3000 face captures a day. Some are of same person, often on a motorcycle, who are moving quickly enough that the cam thinks it's a different person. I've also seen it grab up to 4 faces at the same time. Just be aware that this cam has two lenses and one SoC (processor) so I had to turn the FPS down to 5 on each channel.

I've seen a total of around 4000 face captures a day as there is a lot of foot traffic in my area. It's useful data, I think, as I sometimes look for some of the "regular suspects" who frequent my street.

One could send all the face captures to a process such as DoubleTake to do facial RECOGNITION if they so desired. I'm making the move to Frigate "soon" and version 0.16 (next release) will do built-in facial RECOGNITION.

As others have stated, don't depend on this for unlocking doors/gates/etc as someone holding up a photograph of a face could fool the system. My cams regularly grab faces off of the sides of moving vehicles (think delivery truck with the pictures of a family on the side) and even umbrellas that have famous paintings printed on them.

Unfortunately, none of my cams can do face DETECTION and IVS concurrently. But I have enough cams to cover what I need covered.

If you're looking for a recommendation, I'd go with a Color4K/X or Color4K/T with a properly-sized lens for the scene. Just be aware of the focus issues on these cams.
