Recommended Computer for Blue Iris? Okay, I'm sure this is already in the forum somewhere but I didn't see it. I'm not sure about the load, eventually 6-8 4K cams.

Also, I'm interested in a computer to run Home Assistant.

Thanks,

R

Yep, it is asked all the time lol.

Now with substreams a 4th gen computer can run your proposed load.

Not that we would recommend buying that, but if you have a computer laying around or can get it cheap, it would work.

The minimum we recommend is an 8th gen since it can run Windows 11.

We also recommend a used one from eBay.

+1^^^^.
I'll mention this below since a member since 2017 did not consider looking at the WIKI for some of the answers.
  • In addition to what wiitaj mentioned, be sure to perform a clean install of Windows using the MS Media Creation Tool.
  • Put Windows, Blue Iris and BI's "db" folder on a SSD.
  • Put BI video clips on a surveillance-rated spinning HDD such as a WD Purple drive.
  • I recommend no less than 8GB of RAM but 16 is much better.
FWIW, if you install Windows 11 Pro you can set up to use "domain" and NOT have to fool with using a MS account. :)
