Remote Configuration Hikvision NVR

I am new to the world of NVR setups and configuration but am fairly knowledgeable. I am running into issues of trying to remote config my NVR when I'm trying to setup the Motion Event Area or Picture settings the camera just shows a grey screen but when I am trying to configure it locally I am able to see what the camera sees

Are you logging into the nvr's web interface using a browser or ??
If using a browser, be sure to use IE, not edge.

I'm actually using the iVSM4200 desktop application not the web interface
