Could someone suggest if there exists a camera small enough with better quality for night time, as a replacement to my existing one.
This rebranded Lorex (actually Dahua) is outside under the overhang on my shed, it fits there just perfectly and its form factor makes it very practical for that location, as well as the wide(r) field of view.

However, nightime quality sucks on it, and would like something better.
Daytime quality is very good.

On a side note, this unit has a PIR sensor which I'd like to use to trigger ONVIF in BI (as I get a lot of false positives using BI's motion detection with long grass I have in the back, moving when windy) but I can't get it to work, not sure what I"m doing wrong

Thank you

8MP on a tiny 1/2.5" sensor is why the night vision is so dismal; it should be at least 1/1.8" and ideally 1/1.2".

Consider instead a 4MP turret camera with a 1/1.8" sensor that has AI to help with those false positives, such as => EmpireTech Security Camera 4MP 1/1.8" CMOS Ultra Low Light Starlight+ IR Turret AI IP Camera SMD 3.0,AcuPick,IP67,POE and ePOE,Built-in Mic,Vehicle and Human Detection,IPC-T54IR-AS 2.8mm S3

It is 2.8mm focal length as your Lorex camera.

Yes I agree, but I don't have the footprint under the shed overhang as the round mounting is wider than I have space, this is one the reasons I bought the lorex one, the mounting (as well as FOV), was fitting with my location.

The Lorex (Dahua rebranded) has Angle of View H: 107° V: 57°
The Empiretech (also Dahua) has 2.8 mm: H: 112°; V: 58°; D: 139° < this looks like it will slightly wider FOV, which is actually great!

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll keep an eye out for a sale, it's $225 CAD and I don't have the budget for it at this point!

I would look at adding an additional 4MP 1/1.8" camera for low light ..

The LNB8105X has a wide FOV and as you noted does well in good light conditions.

If you can only pick one camera and low light is critical, the 4MP 1/1.8" single or dual lens cameras are the way to go imho
