New member here. Thanks for a great informative forum.
I have a dlink dcs-7010L covering my doorstep and part of the front of my house. but i'm getting tired of dlink, something is always not working. motion and ftp uploads work now and then, and now the camera is stuck in night mode b/w. (will try to beat some sense in to it)
So i'm looking to buy hikvision DS-2CD2342WD-I to see if i have any more luck with that, the problem is that i have no idea what lens to get, i would guess 4 or 6mm. see the picture and let me know what you think. the pictures is/was 1280x800.
Or should i look at a different camera?

Do you want a wide view or a narrow? A wide view lens on the Hik's is the 2.4mm the 4 is standard and the 6 is the "tigher view".... there are demo photos on the web that can help you make that decision as well.

@ntenz Welcome to the forum. If you want an image like you have now, go with a 4mm...
The DS-2CD2342WD-I is a great choice.

thanks for your replies.
Any idea how more narrow the picture will be with 6mm lens?
Something like this?

The nice thing about the Hik, is the higher resolution will allow you to digitally zoom in and still have a better image than the D-Link. So if you go a little wider, you'll still be able to get more detail. You are also covering much more area. However, the 2.8mm lens does show a little distortion because of the wide angle which may be undesirable.
