The spec sheets from Dahua are difficult to digest at times, sometimes you need to read between the lines. If they are excluding it, there is a reason.
Almost certainly down to privacy laws. Some countries don't permit facial recognition technology.

I have the 5216-16P-I , and I have to agree about it not playing nice with the 7842 camera, but after a lot of trail and error I did get face detection and recognition working alongside IVS tripwire. I used the web interface for the NVR and the camera to make settings, don't know if this makes the difference? 9apps cartoon hd

I too have the 5216-16P-I
If FR is good for 4-9m (wide or narrow view), what good is it for, if it starts detecting in X3 the distance, with a capture that is not good enough and therefor, decides it's a stranger. As the same person approaches the cam, you have few different detection of the same person: in some of them he is identified correct and others it's a stranger.
Now, tell me what good is it for.... SMD and IVS are giving you realtime alerts. You cannot use it for alerts that way.
it can be corrected with SW but looks like Dahua is not interested.
Stupid gimmick and nothing more.

@nathmaheshmp , what SW version are you using?
Is it the latest one (14082020)?
I was setting it for no snapshots, 15 FPS, res 2560x1440, CBR, BR 2048 and 8 4MP cams are consuming 740GB per day. Far too much. 8TB can last barely 10 days.
How is it for you?

2048 kbit/s = 256 KB/s
256 KB/s * 3600 * 24 = 21 GB per day
8 cams = 168 GB per day...

Something is wrong... Check Record Mode in Storage which streams/snapshosts are You writing...

Hi Looney did you ever get to play with the face recognition on a non-FD camera?

Update May 30th: face recognition works with any camera for up to 2 cameras. Is does not work in conjuction with IVS or heatmap.
Have you ever tried that on 2 non-FD cameras plus 1 FD camera, will face recognition on all three of them?
