I am testing this attached to the Dahua-Review of IPC-HDBW4231E-AS Mini Dome Starlight Cam As it's the only cam I have with an external audio input that's not mounted high on a roof. ;)

Black bar is the mounting bracket, simply rotates to remove.

Mount black bar to surface, then simply twist the audio pickup housing to it.

When the bracket is removed, it reveals the audio gain adjustment pod.

One of the unique features of this audio pickup, is that you can cascade more together into the same audio feed. For example, in a large room to cover audio pickup from more than one location.

Ok, sorry for the delay.
First I want to mention its possible the way I have this mic mounted for testing is coloring the sound somewhat, do to the angle of the mic, and the metal ceiling above.
But then again, each camera also seems to have it's own sound characteristics.

Here is how it is connected.

Thanks. Could you give a bit more info as to your overall impressions of the unit, including the sound quality and how it compares to the stock mic or other mic options (assuming you have tried these)?

Also, another video with some speech would be great. I know it's annoying to go talk to one of these, but maybe you could just read something aloud. If you could speak out near the parked car or in the driveway, testing with both facing the house and away might be good.

Sorry, just saw this. Not getting reply notifications for some reason.

It's good, it works well. I'd say it is on the same field as the built-in mic in the HDW5231R-ZE cam. But not quite as good as this: Bullet Mic Review

I'll record more audio and post.

It’s pretty good and no wind sock too.
I’ve tested a few microphones and that one nayar recommends
I haven’t used anything else but that one
Thanks looney2ns

Sure like to see Dolby maybe put that background noise to sleep. I get background noise from busy street 4 houses away from ours.

How is the sound quality from 50, 75, 100ft away?
Assuming optimal conditions, i.e. minimal wind, no cars, etc., what is the maximum distance you could realistically pick up a conversation without distortion?
Would a directional microphone be better suited for that purpose?

Do you need a special connection from the audio plug and the connection from the camera it looks like you have a black connector between the two

So I bought the same set up, do you need a special connector between the two audio cables ?

the adapter goes into the brown audio connector on the microphone and the similar audio input on the cam.
the one with the pin in the middle is for POWER. If your cam has no audio input connector (many don't), it won't work with this mic.

So this is my email from Andy when I bought it,

IPC-HDBW5631R-ZE is better, using new tech and has sharper pics than the 4mp day and night. This one has audio in/out, just add a voice pick up, then can make it work out.
