Review: EZVIZ DB1C

Using the db1c for a week now with mixed emotions.

My goal was to have a video doorbell with RTMP stream to Home assistant / BI and have it connected to the EZVIZ Chime 2 (I had the kit with doorbel, 12V power converter and chime).

I did the set up installing, added the doorbell to the app and added the chime, the door bell worked with the app and chime.
But I could not get any RTMP feed on ... anything besides de app.

Using ezviz studio I noticed that I only had the chime visible and the doorbell was connected to the chime.

Found some info in this board and internet to remove the chime connection.
With that I was able to connect to VLC and BI (never with Home assistant) but un reliable it, even in the ezviz app it went offline all the time.
It toke sometimes 20 sec before VLC was able to show the feed.
I was not able to have the chime working without linking.

A new reset gave me even that the doorbel was not able to see my wifi anymore (my unifi AP is 7 feed away through 1 outside and 1 inside wall (my phone has 4 bars holding it next to the doorbell))
Only connecting it through my chime (on the other side of the outside wall) worked but again without RTMP feed.

I also noticed that in Home assistant info (I added the doorbell via the ezviz integration) it has an IP in an other range (I use 192.168.0.X, the doorbell has 192.168.8.4)...
All very strange.

Did someone got the doorbell + chime connected and is able to see RTMP feeds?
Did someone got it to work in Home assistant?
Is there a specific way to connect the doorbell, chime, Home assistant and get everything working.

Thank you.
Yes I've got the DB1C working with the wireless chime, Home Assistant and Blue Iris. But I actually use a BI URL to access the camera in Home Assistant (I can't remember whether I tried using the Ezviz integration to get the camera stream), so my HA config for the camera looks like this:

Code:
camera:
  - platform: mjpeg
    mjpeg_url: http://mydomain.ddns.net:1234/mjpg/doorbell/video.mjpg
    name: Front Door
    username: MyUser
    password: MyPW
Where port 1234 redirects to my BI server, and the DB1C camera is named "doorbell" in BI.
The other thing that's important is that you don't change the default Verification Code of the DB1C from its original 6-character code - this breaks RTSP.

I recently switched from a Uniden U-Bell (HikVision DS-KB6003-WIP) to the DB1C. The price was right for me to toy with it. It is working with the EZVIZ app and the night vision has greatly improved but the motion/human detection is terrible. I am using human detection and it sees every car pulling out of my neighbors driveway as a human even though I have those areas masked in the app. Every bug flyby is a human as well. Motion detection mode isn't any better at any sensitivity setting.
I was thinking on trying to load Home Assistant and Frigate on my Raspberry Pi 4 1gig (currently only running pi-hole) to do my human detection, send an alert to my phone, and recording the clip instead of the app binging every five minutes especially at night. Do you guys think this is doable with a Pi-4 and a SSD HD? Am I understanding Frigate properly? I only have the DB1C camera as of now. I've googled the heck out of Raspberry pi and Frigate but can't find any solid answers if the pi-4 is powerful enough. I have a couple of spare computers at home but, unfortunately they don't meet the requirement to run Home Assistant (non UEFI) or BI (non quick sync).
Thanks

@TimTech With the latest versions of BI quick sync isn't very important. Sub streams will lower CPU requirements and utilization by a faotr of 20+ over what quick sync can do.

Has anyone got the Ezviz DB1C to work with the call function(by this I mean when someone presses the doorbell button) & 2 phones successfully?

I've used this doorbell with the Hik Connect app (and several Hikvision Cameras & NVR) for some time now. I'm not sure if the call function ever worked great. But recently it's not working at all.
I have been using the same login user for this app on 2 phones. The Hik connect app does throw up some errors when doing this and it seems to stop the call function working. If I just login on 1 phone I can get it working ok.

So I decided to try 2 separate Hik connect accounts with the device share function(with permissions enabled for Live View,Playback,Alarm,Two Way Audio) , which works apart from the call function!

Next I tried the Ezviz app, 2 separate accounts with the device share function(with permissions enabled for Live View,Playback,Alarm,Two Way Audio & Doorbell Call) . Note the Ezviz account allows an extra permission for "Doorbell Call") .
Unfortunately the call function doesn't seem to work with 2 phones in the case. And I don't really think the app is as good as the Hik connect app.

Any Ideas anyone?
I would really like to just use the 1 app for all my cameras, NVR & Doorbell.
Hik Connect seems to me missing the Doorbell Call permission for sharing the doorbell with other users....

With the DB1 we had issues with the Calling Function too. My LaView (DB1 variant) works about 80-90% of the time. We think some of the issues is from the Cloud. Big question, how is your Cell service at you house? Does your DB1C got a good WiFi connection?

Wi-fi is solid, I Have a Unifi access point close by ..

Ezviz app showing firmware update to V5.3.0 build 211011. Has anyone tried this update or know about it? Notes mention optimized performance and improved stability. That would be nice as long as it doesn't interfere with RTSP for BI streaming.

Separate FYI - new Android app forces you to set a new PW which breaks RTSP when adding it for the first time or upon reset. I had to downgrade with a sideloaded version 5-0-8-0413 apk found online to add without changing PW. Upgraded to new app afterwards works fine.

Do you have a DB1 or DB1C?

We just had someone on the DB1 Thread get the same firmware build 211011 update:

My DB1C has pending firmware update. I think I’ll let you guys try it first IMG_5061.png

Even though I don't have my DB1C up and running I went ahead and downloaded the latest 211011 build firmware:

Here is the link to download the latest firmware for the DB1C:
You can install from the Batch Config. Tool, if you don't use the EZVIZ App.:

The DB1 latest firmware is also build 211011 but is a different filesize, if it were me I would keep different build numbers between the DB1 and DB1C

ATTACHED ZIP IS FIRMWARE BUILD 211011

I'm also keen to hear whether the DB1C update improves or breaks anything. I'm reluctant to upgrade in case it breaks anything (particularly the RTSP stream, which I use with Blue Iris).

I’m with you. I just got mine working with my raspberry pi and frigate. A RTSP / password issue would really bum me out.

You guys should be able to reload the old firmware like we did on the DB1. We even loaded different brands/resellers firmwares...

Here is build 201106:

But I understand, if it ain't broke, leave it alone...In time we will know of any new or changed features...

Thanks for that. What's the procedure for reverting to a previous version of the firmware on the DB1C?

Using Batch Config. Tool you can upgrade or downgrade, only thing that has been suggested in the DB1 Thread is to do a Reset after the upgrade but I never did that on my DB1 variant LaView DB. I tried a few different firmwares. Just have to warn you there is always a chance of bricking the unit as there is with any.

I don't know if I'm having WiFi issues...or it's because of the firmware update but my DB1C keeps going offline now! I reset it, it comes back on. An hour or two later it goes offline again!
Anyone else have this issue? Any fix?
