Review: IPC-LPR237B-IR / Equivalent of Dahua ITC237-PW6M-IRLZF1050-B - ANPR, Traffic & Access Control Camera

I’ll be aiming to start capturing footage for the review this week and will aim to walk people through setup as well.
Good to hear. I'm struggling a bit on setting up for night settings. I'm either getting washed out plates, or not picking plates up at all. But I'm still playing around with things. :)

Can anyone with the 437 up and running post some screenshots of the settings menu and the updated GUI?
I’ll be doing that as part of the review. I’ll also walk through settings to adjust and where they may be useful. Is there something specific you want to see @Billyjack5 or do you have a 437 and need some assistance ?

Thanks, wildcat. No, I was just curious. I spent a lot of time fine tuning my 237 settings and they are great, but I'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade to the 437. If it has an easy to use blacklist feature, that might win me over. I know there are ways to do it with the 237 but in trying the various methods suggested by this thread, I haven't had success and would want something simpler.

I’ll look to grab more menu video too and pay particular attention to those features for you

Started capturing some day footage earlier today as planned. Will work on some more this week, then start the edit. This cam definitely needs image adjusted out of the box so I show that as well in terms of recommended settings for you.

Thanks, Wildcat_1. Would be interested to know if you are able to use the night settings you have for the 237 for the 437 and whether you can send API commands to the camera for daytime and nighttime focus.

I have the 237 and cant for the life of me find where to see the speed (mph) of vehicles. Is that a feature that was advertised but removed?

I'm not aware that it was ever advertised and there isn't such a setting (at least natively) on the 237. I would assume such a feature would require additional hardware in the camera.

Interesting. I've never seen those settings in the 237. But I also can't get the black/whitelist to work, either. I'm hoping the 437 is more user friendly. Mine works great at 85 feet at an angle that pushes the limits, but I still get more than 95 percent accuracy when a plate is visible. It would be great if the vehicle type fields were reliable and I could get notifications when a blacklisted car goes by.

Curious on settings for night. With the 5241 used as a LPR, we want the settings to the point we don't see anything on the screen, completely black.
With the 437, due to the need for a capture area, are we still going to see a completely black screen at night, or from what I see of @Wildcat_1 on the 237, it seems the picture can be viewed.

My problem at the moment is capturing back plates on vehicles at night. I've lowered IR down to 47, and made a few other adjustments on settings, but I seem to be getting a washed out plate, with the brake lights also causing a bit of problem.
Night picture for reference.

I'll walk through the night time config as well. Brake lights can be accommodated for absolutely. What's the light in FOV like from street ?

Quick update on my testing. Hit a couple of bugs which while better I find them than you all having to see them in prod cams, unfortunately means I need to re-capture footage. Working on this again tomorrow and have also reported to Dahua

The light is pretty good since the energy company replaced old street lights with LED. I've tried getting color captures at night, and just seem to get a bunch of fuzz... like the old OTA TV's, at 1/500.. tried dropping to 1/250, and then seem to be blurry. I know I'm just missing getting this set up right, but I'm experimenting with different settings.

For night/b&w settings I'm using 0-1 speed settings. It's a work in progress, but I'll get it one of these weeks. :)

Quick update from me. Re-captured the day footage today and now going through it. I'm purposefully pushing this camera to extreme limits to see how it holds up. Also capturing the menu and setup for you all as well. Will capture the night raw footage soon then look to pull this altogether in the edit and publish. Lot of work on this one (due to the nature of ALPR / ANPR) in general but things are looking good

Does this camera need to be at a 30 degree angle to capture plates effectively or 30 degrees or less? I'm at 5 degrees right now and about 90 ft away and it only captures 75% of plates and even then has lots of errors, it will read the same plate multiple times getting 1 letter wrong each time. If multiple vehicles go through it usually only catches one of them, and seems to never catch rear plates. Purchased the 437 just for reference.

I'll show off a crazy angle as part of the 437, in fact specifically mounted this way to show what it's capable of. With that said, if you want consistent plate caps that you can take to the bank then YES angle, height and distance to target along with dialing in for speed and light as well as frames possible within FOV ARE absolutely critical. Eve more so at night of course. Are the issues you're seeing at day, night or both ?
